Good Neighbors, Great Seasons

Resort Rules

Barnacles Resort prides itself on being an angler- and family-friendly resort. These rules keep us in compliance with our Aitkin County Conditional Use Permits and protect the quiet enjoyment of every member. Members are responsible for sharing the rules with their guests — and for their guests' actions. Thanks for being a good neighbor.

Quiet & Courtesy

  • Quiet hours are 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Keep noise — music, voices, and generators — at a level that won't disturb neighboring members.
  • Be courteous and respectful to fellow members, management, staff, and all surrounding property owners.
  • Act respectfully when using resort amenities. All amenities are used at your own risk — no lifeguard is on duty, and parents are responsible for supervising children at all times, including in and around the lake. Additional posted rules apply at the beach.

Fire & Safety

  • No fireworks anywhere on Barnacles property.
  • No hunting or discharge of firearms on any Barnacles property. Firearms are not allowed south of State Highway 18 or in any common area (shower houses, playgrounds, etc.).
  • Campfires only in contained fire rings or approved fire pits, only when permitted by local law and current fire-danger conditions. Check the Minnesota DNR for current restrictions.
  • No smoking or vaping of any kind — including tobacco and cannabis — in shower houses or common areas. No illegal drug use anywhere on the property.
  • Electric heaters are prohibited in skid houses and homemade wheelhouses due to fire-hazard and electrical-load risks.

Lots & Structures

  • Only one RV or fish house per lot. Tent camping is not allowed on any lot.
  • Only non-RV edition wheelhouse-style RVs and skid houses are allowed on lots leased for a fish house. RV Edition wheelhouses, truck campers, travel trailers, fifth wheels, pop-ups, and motorhomes are classified and charged for RV lots.
  • One storage shed per lot, up to 120 square feet. Sheds over 25 square feet require management approval and an Aitkin County permit before installation.
  • Decks must be detachable and no larger than 300 square feet, with no overhangs from RVs or fish houses. Decks more than 6 inches off the ground or larger than 32 square feet require prior management approval and a county permit.
  • No pools, hot tubs, or trampolines — swimming pools, wading pools, hot tubs, trampolines, and similar installations may not be set up anywhere on the property.
  • Don't modify your lot (tree removal, additional fill, etc.) without prior consent from resort management.
  • Outdoor lighting must be downward-directed.

Vehicles & ATVs

  • 10 mph maximum for all vehicles throughout the resort. Always yield to pedestrians.
  • ATVs, golf carts, UTVs, mini-bikes, and electric scooters are for point-to-point travel only, max 10 mph, yielding to pedestrians, bikes, and other traffic. Operators must hold a valid driver's license, carry no more passengers than the manufacturer's seating allows, and keep the machine licensed, insured, and maintained as applicable.
  • Unless traveling to or from the waterfront, Mudflats, or a lakeside RV lot, ATVs may not be used on resort property south of State Highway 18.

Garbage & Wastewater

  • No burning garbage. Deposit trash in the resort dumpsters, and don't heap it above the rim.
  • Gray water and black water must be disposed of only at designated facilities — never onto the ground, into wetlands, or into the lake.

Lake Stewardship

  • Follow Minnesota aquatic invasive species laws. Before leaving the water, clean all plants, zebra mussels, and debris from watercraft, trailers, and equipment; pull drain plugs and keep them out during transport; and put unwanted bait in the trash. It is illegal to launch or transport a boat with invasive species attached or water on board.

Pets

  • Pets are welcome! Keep them leashed at all times and clean up after them.
  • Maximum of two pets per lot, with current vaccination records available on request.
  • Pets may not be brought into the shower houses, left unattended, or allowed to bark or become a nuisance. Pets are not allowed in the swimming area but are allowed in the harbor.
  • Service animals, as defined under applicable law, are exempt from certain pet restrictions.

Storage Area

  • The storage area is not open for general member use. Access it only if you have a fish house or other property in storage, and only for purposes related to that property. All other access requires prior consent from management.
